Ruth Lyne The dishes and rectangular forms are made by layering metal leaf, wire and, even washers between two pieces of glass and heating them in a kiln until they fuse together. This creates a flat sheet with a metal sealed inside; it is then placed in a mould in the kiln and reheated. As the glass gets hotter it softens and sags into the mould taking its form. The different types of leaf produce individual colours but when they are put together they react with each other to produce a variety of colours. Ruth’s work is based on the colours and textures found on beaches. She is interested in the way man made materials and objects are reclaimed by nature but still keep an industrial quality. |
