Zviad Khachidze
Until 1999 I lived in my native Republic of Georgia (ex-USSR) and worked in a small craft collective. Moving to the UK allowed - or required - me to reinvent myself, to reassess who I was in a culture fundamentally different from my own. My inspiration now comes from the materials themselves. I work alone, often on several pieces concurrently. My aim: to let the metal speak for itself. Tension settings demonstrate it's strength. Different finishes suggest solidity, maybe even rigidity, whilst curves and domes hint at a willingness to yield. More often than not my pieces design themselves, insofar as rather then seeking to impose my will, I let the metal direct me. |
