Wendy Hoare
Wendy trained as a sculptor at Reading University 1963-1967. Having gained a degree in Fine Art, she spent six months in Paris, studying with the benefit of a French Government grant. On returning she began teaching in Northampton 1968-1978 and produced and exhibited sculpture locally. During this time she developed an interest in ceramics. Wendy builds all her work by the traditional method of joining coils of clay without a wheel. Inspiration comes from the rhythm, power and grace of all natural forms, from seeds to birds, landscape and human form. Ceramic influences include the pottery of Mycenae, Crete, South America and Africa. Other influences include Egyptian and 20th Century sculpture, medieval and renaissance artists. Northampton Museum has purchased a piece of Wendy's work for their ceramic collection. She was also selected to take part in Anglia Television's "Moving Art" series. |
