Rosemary Wright
Rosemary has been using a lathe to make wooden objects since 1993. What started as a hobby has now become a full time occupation. She previously worked as a biochemist in plant and agricultural research and had no formal training in art or design. Rosemary claims insanity or a mid life crisis made her change direction completely to do what she most enjoys - being creative and her own boss. Rosemary loves making shapes and developing ideas with much of her inspiration coming from the world of ceramics. Other influences include sculpture, architecture, fashion and differing cultures. The variety in the density, colour, grain, feel and smell of woods inspire her. Wood has warmth, strength, beauty, durability and versatility unmatched by any other material. This drives her to continually seek new ideas in form, function and decoration. Rosemary tries to combine classic design with influences of the natural world to create pleasing organic shapes. She has recently taken a workshop space at Galley Hill to develop more sculptural work. |
