The creative potential and technique of throwing has fascinated me since the age of thirteen. So my work inevitably always begins its life on the wheel. My interests lie in exploring tensions, shape, proportion and balance.

And I frequently alter shapes after the initial throwing process is complete by combining sections or re-throwing parts of the piece of work such as the base or stem. This is done with the pot placed upside down while the base section of the clay is still malleable enough to respond to shaping. I also employ a heat gun to assist me with this process.

I produce work in small batches of a dozen or so at a time with each piece evolving from developments that have taken place within a previous one. Clays used are mainly a white stoneware body and some porcelain, fired to 1250c in electric top loading kilns.
