Peter Clough
I was trained as a Sculptor and Potter in the south of England, moving to the north in 1966 where I have remained ever since. For the last 20 years I have lived in Harrogate on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales from which I have derived inspiration for my recent work. I use a variety of methods in constructing my work including throwing and altering, and handbuilding. Smaller pieces are made in pure porcelain, whilst larger work uses a recently developed more sandy porcelain clay. Decoration is built up slowly using coloured slips, shellac resist, drawing and sponging and is applied to the dry clay. The interior has a black vitreous engobe, providing a contrast to the decorated exterior. Work is once fired very slowly to 1280 degrees centigrade in a fibre line Propane Gas Kiln. |
