Penkridge Ceramics
After attaining B.A. and M.A. qualifications in Ceramics Lorraine Taylor and Nicky Smart established Penkridge Ceramics in 1984. All items in the range are produced in the workshop, this includes all mould making, glazing and hand painting. All work is in semi-porcelain clay and glazed with lead free glazes which are adapted with various colours and matting agents to create the particular surface and finish of each piece. They are constantly experimenting with the glazes in order to improve on the finish and quality and also to introduce new items into the range. Up to six different glazes can be used on one piece to achieve a particular finish. Certain pieces require inlays of coloured slip before casting, and all hand painted before the final firing. The final attention to detail is of particular importance and ensures each piece is individual. |
