Diane Flint
Diane Flint completed a two year Art Foundation course at Harlow Technical College. She went on to Middlesex University where she obtained a B.A. (Hons) Jewellery Design. Diane has set up a workshop at her home where she has developed a range of pewter candlesticks, napkin rings, soap dishes, mirrors, bowls and goblets. Diane started using pewter after she left college where she had mainly worked in steel. She felt she needed a metal to reflect her thought and working process - she needed "instant results". With casting pewter she found her perfect medium and has explored it ever since. Diane casts in to silicon rubber using two part moulds then she solders the separate pieces together and finishes with emery paper. The pewter she uses is lead free. Diane draws most inspiration from travel and architecture, although the atmosphere of a place can be more influential that the actual building. In general, Diane tends to 'store' information without really being conscious of it, and some time later she may recognise aspects emerging in her work, which reminds her of a certain place or a feeling a place has evoked in her. |
