Annika Herne
Annika Herne moved to London in 1992 from Malmo, Sweden. She studied for a B.A. honours degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing at The Sir John Cass School of Arts, London Guildhall University and graduated in 1996. Annika now works from her studio in Crystal Palace, London. She has developed her own personal design of jewellery, much influenced by her Scandinavian background, resulting in simple, striking designs combined with powerful colours. Annika's jewellery is made from sterling silver and anodised aluminium. The anodising process makes the surface of the aluminium porous so that it can absorb dyes. The metal is passed through a rolling mill together with a fine cotton fabric before the dyes are applied. This process makes the colours more vivid and adds texture to the aluminium. The silver is cut into its desired shape and polished. The prepared aluminium is then joined to its silver frame using small rivets.
